Encouragement
Today’s post marks the completion of one full week of writing a blog. I wasn’t sure I’d get through one day! I found myself wondering what to talk about today. I really don’t want to take up space with words just to be taking up space. Then I remembered my basic intent for this enterprise was to share some of my daily smiles, gratitude, and positive thoughts along with other “mewsings.” Some smiles and encouragement came my way today through an e-mail from a friend, and I have lifted two of my favorite stories from it to share with you. I don’t know about you, but I often become discouraged, thinking my place of service is not all that important, and that I’m probably not doing that great of a job even blooming where I’ve been planted. These two little stories reminded me of what is important, and they made me smile and then feel a little sheepish at the same time. God uses me where He needs me, when He needs me, and my calling is to be ready and willing at those times and places.
“On my way home one day, I stopped to watch a Little League base ball game that was being played in a park near my home. As I sat down behind the bench on the first-base line, I asked one of the boys what the score was.
“We’re behind 14 to nothing,” he answered with a smile.
“Really,” I said. “I have to say you don’t look very discouraged.”
“Discouraged?”, the boy asked with a puzzled look on his face…
“Why should we be discouraged? We haven’t been up to bat yet.” *********************************************
Whenever I’m disappointed with my spot in life, I stop and think about little Jamie Scott.
Jamie was trying out for a part in the school play. His mother told me that he’d set his heart on being in it, though she feared he would not be chosen.
On the day the parts were awarded, I went with her to collect him after school. Jamie rushed up to her, eyes shining with pride and excitement. “Guess what, Mom,” he shouted, and then said those words that will remain a lesson to me…..”I’ve been chosen to clap and cheer.”
What greater service is there than to clap and cheer for someone else and to wait, with a smile, for God to tell us it’s our time at bat.
Have a good weekend, my friends. See you next week.
And oh, by the way, in case you’re interested, the University of Memphis basketball Tigers are #1 in the nation. Go Tigers!!

I guess I’d better get back to commenting! Continue being an encourager with all of your thoughts and stories – it is one of God’s greatest gifts.

a belated welcome to the blog community – nice theme and such – should we find a nice dog picture to replace the picture at the top?
