Mind Your Own Business
Do you have situations and people in your life that you would just like to get in the middle of and mix it up? Situations you believe you could manage a whole lot better than the people involved are doing? People who would be a lot better off if they’d do like you can see they ought to?
There are a couple of situations and people who fall into that category for me. I have to constantly guard against giving unsolicited advice and making judgments. Now I know there are times when the advice is very timely. But when my direction is not followed, how do I feel about it? Hard facts to admit, but I usually feel hurt and/or resentful.
Well, this past week, my Power for Today devotional hit me square between the eyes. (Just in the same way that passage in Proverbs did several weeks ago. You know the one where it tells you to involve yourself in a quarrel not your own is like taking a dog by both ears!)
The devotional for Saturday, September 20th, was taken from I Thessalonians 4:9-12. Beginning in verse 9…………..”Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one each other. 10) And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more. 11) Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 12) so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”
It sounds quiet a lot like Proverbs, after all. You know, work hard, keep your mouth shut, etc.
I know there’s a fine line here. We all see people in situations that we know “the end thereof is the way of destruction (or death).” Do we have a responsibility? Of course. But that’s where the thin line starts……………….in knowing when true responsibility and simple interference part company. I don’t know that I have achieved that wisdom thus far.
Hmmm. A subject for deep thought and prayer!
TODAY’S SMILES:
- My church family.
- Carolyn.
- Terrie and Mae went to Walmart this afternoon to grocery shop. They called to say they had bought a toy for Barney!
- I hate to keep saying this, but…………..my zinnias. They look like a giant bouquet at the front doorstep. Butterflies visit every day.
- Both of us at my house were physically able to attend both church services today.
- Sitting behind Mike in the a.m. service and being able to sing with him. He sings beautiful tenor! Have I mentioned I love tenor? I know the angels sing tenor……
Have a good Sunday night and Monday. See you tomorrow night. Much love.

I would have a lot to say about this but I best just mind my own business!
Imagine the difference in a given church family if we took this seriously? You are right, too, that it is often a very thin line.

The % of folks using my advice even when they come to me is extremely low, much less me offering my advice to anyone.
