Taking time in the midst of life to look for smiles every day…..

Ode to Schoolteachers

……….for lack of a more inventive title, I’ll use this one!
I subscribe to two magazines put out by Reiman Publications.  They are Country and Country Extra.  They are wonderful magazines, and I thoroughly enjoy them.  They have great stories, pictures, recipes, helpful hints, and all kinds of stuff, plus there is a contest [...]

Absence

Sorry I haven’t been blogging for a few days.  Besides neck pain which required an MRI last Thursday (it was okay), I twisted my back on Friday while mopping our DR and have been pretty much incapacitated.  Wound up in the doctor’s office yesterday whimpering and crying (I always thought I could stand a goodly amount [...]

?

We woke to rain this morning, and my whiskey barrel zinnias have been drinking it up all day!  As promised by the meteorologists, the rain came in bringing some cool temperatures.  I love it.  However, this is the time of year I have to remember what time of year it is and take a jacket [...]

Explanation of Benefits

Credit for today’s thoughts must be given to Cathy Dawkins of Ketchikan, Alaska, a contributing writer for Power for Today.  Her October 17th devotional thoughts surrounded Romans 4:7-8.
“Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.  Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.”
……….as well as Psalm 51 in [...]

Mr. C and Wife Jo

I’m late writing my Monday night blog, so here I am on Tuesday morning!
Last night I was so tired I couldn’t think much less type!  I mentioned a few days ago about a new housecleaning we had been blessed with.  To say the house has been a challenge would be an understatement, especially since only [...]

Twenty Wishes

One of my favorite fiction authors is Debbie Macomber.  Her books deal with real-life issues but usually end on a happy note!  I just finished a book of hers entitled “Twenty Wishes.”  The story is centered around a group of lonely widows devastated by circumstances in their lives.  On what they called “the loneliest night [...]

Ruminating on House Cleaning and Other Part-time Jobs

As I’ve mentioned, we are attempting to make a small splash in the small-business world with a very elementary house-cleaning business.  We got a new gig this week at the home of 80-something Mr. C whose wife passed some 4 years ago, and whose house hasn’t been touched in 3 years!  The plan right now [...]

Full Moon

……….tonight.  Not only is it absolutely beautiful and is awe-inspiring……………but I’m told it can explain some really squirrely things that have no other explanation!  Things that can only be attributable to a full moon.  Ever have days like that?
TODAY’S SMILES:

Lauren and Cheryl.
Brigitt.
The little boy twins in the nursery tonight.
Did I mention the full moon?

See you [...]

Today

……………….is an anniversary of sorts.  Six years ago today, Doris had undergone surgery for esophageal cancer.  We’d been at the hospital all day and were finally able to see her after 4pm.  By this time, she’d already had the respirator removed, and we all knew if she weren’t in la-la land, she’d be really glad [...]

Mr. C.

Through a friend, we learned of an elderly man who is interested in getting someone to clean his house.  Since we are interested in cleaning houses, we gave Mr. C. a call and went today to interview and be interviewed, so to speak.
Mr. C. lives in an older part of town, almost mid-town.  His wife died [...]
