CHAMPIONS!!!
Hailey’s team won again this afternoon, making them the champs. Of course, I already knew Hailey was a champion! (I’m not a bit prejudiced!) She is so cute out there running up and down that basketball court. This was their fifth game, I think, but only the first one her Mamaw and I have been able to attend. But if we’d been at all five, we couldn’t be any prouder of her and her team. Love you, Hailey baby.
The game was fun in other ways, too. There was a family atmosphere. It’s always fun to spend time with Hailey’s other grandparents, aunts and uncles (and her mom and dad), but Patrick, Carrie, and C(K)aleb were in attendance as well. I had to pull Patrick’s beard once, but that was okay, since I used to rub his back and sing him and his brother to sleep………or put them in the car and drive them around ’til they got sleepy!
It was a cold day, but the sun shone brightly all day. The sunshine was a very welcome sight even though deceiving. I noticed on Facebook Brad mentioned a temperature of -22 windchill! Now that’s cold!! However, I imagine he’d welcome the 17-18 degrees we expect for Monday morning………but WE are dreading it.
Barney makes a good foot warmer but, about 6:30, he removes himself from the foot of the bed and starts maneuvering for me to get up with him for breakfast. Ah, the feline finicky-ness!!
The above was written before church time Sunday evening. I’m finishing up after services, and let me tell you, it’s freezing outside! I was so glad to get back in the house where it’s warm and cozy, and I thank God for a comfortable home.
Tonight’s sermon was centered around the prayer of Jabez. Powerful stuff. Some of the thoughts in this short prayer: keep me from evil and that I might not cause pain. What an appropriate prayer; I should pray along with Jabez every day. It seems the older I get the more aware I become of just how short I fall in so many areas of life. Thanks be to Christ for His unspeakable gift of grace.
And, finally, it’s not long now ’til Santa comes to town! Just a question. Were you afraid of him when you were little? I was!!
TODAY’S SMILES:
- Doris being physically able to attend her granddaughter’s basketball game this afternoon and church services tonight.
- Barney stretched out on the couch asleep when we came in from church, in the same spot we left him BEFORE church.
- Patrick.
- Carolyn.
- Mona’s kindness in staying with Labrenda and Carl’s disabled daughter on Sunday evenings so they can come to church.
- Dwight.
Love you guys! See you tomorrow night.

Congrats to Hailey / Team!! I remember those days with great fondness with our children.
Jan talked with her sister who lives in Michigan very near Lake Michigan … -4 with 40mph winds, so she says it’s about a -25 windchill. That’s just too cold. We made it up to the lower 60’s today but more rain expected Monday and Wednesday.
Stay warm!
