Happy Birthday Coleen and Liz AND to My Daddy
Coleen an Liz’s birthdays are in May and July, respectively. But I would certainly be remiss if I did not mention that today would be my daddy’s 100th birthday! Happy Birthday, Daddy.
My friends have come and gone, and we had a good time. We talked over each other, laughed a lot, ate too much, and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. I rose early to bake a cake for them (I was too exhausted to bake it last night!) and do a little cleaning before they came. Emily helped me clean up a little. She is a handy little duster of furniture, let me tell you. And you know how some children are shy around strangers? Uh-uh, not our Emmy! As soon as they came in, she started talking and didn’t stop until well after their departure. As I write this, she is on the love seat, snoring, and her Mamaw is on the couch doing the same thing! We had chinese for lunch and came home to have cake. Again, that recurring theme of excessive food…………a continuation of yesterday! Have you noticed how, in this country, entertainment and good times are often synonomous with food???
Normally, I write 5 daily blogs per week, beginning on Sunday evening and going through Thursday evening. Sometimes my timing gets out of whack, and I let one slide; however, my friend Greg over at “Why Soitenly” expressed disappointment recently that some of our blogging community is getting lax. I can’t have Greg being disappointed with me, so I must attend to this privilege of blogging as circumspectly as if I had just started. HIS blog is a constant source of encouragement and humor. In my opinion, we couldn’t do without him. So take that, my dear CA Greg!!
Seriously, some days it’s like I don’t have anything to share that I think anyone would be interested in reading. But the basic premise of my blog has always been to share as much encouragement as possible, some realities, but, especially, the things that make me smile every day. I will try not to lag anymore.
TODAY’S SMILES:
- Seeing our friends.
- The cake from a new recipe. All dark chocolate and coconut.
- Still smiling about the movie we saw yesterday, Night at the Museum-Smithsonian.
- Our Emily.
- Hailey’s home from camp and looking forward to the pool being in working order next week.
- Greg’s descriptions of his grandchildren and the heart of this man who wants to share them with his Muz.
- Anticipating a nap!
See you Sunday evening. May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Sounds like you had a wonderful visit and lots of good food. A good combo indeed!
July is almost like Christmas in our home. Three of our girls have July birthdays, one of our granddaughters, our anniversary is in July and Larry’s two sisters are in July as well and two more sisters-in-law. The greeting card company’s love me.

I’m impressed, Judy. I have no idea how old my dad was when he died nor when he might ever have turned 100. A sad reality of my life. I’m glad you have a better memory.
You don’t have to blog because of any perceived pressure from me. I’ll just take you to task if you let it go too long without a blog offering. I really enjoy your “Today’s Smiles.” Some days I look back and wonder if I could even come up with something that made me smile. Fortunately those days are few and far between.
Thanks (again) for introducing me to Janice Garrison. I thoroughly enjoy her blog. One of the joys of this community . . . .
