A Scale-y Kind of Day
You know how scales go up and down?
This morning I had a doctor’s appointment for periodic blood work to check cholesterol and hemoglobin A1C levels (Dee will understand as, I’m sure, many others will.). Part of it was also a weight check. I truly believe doctor’s scales are rigged. My weight this morning on MY scales was the same it was a month ago when I weighed before going to the doctor. THAT day, their sales outweighed mine by 6 pounds! Today, they were within one-half pound of agreement! Go figure.
Later in the day, I had to make a trip to the post office to mail some books back to my book club. I placed an order a couple of weeks ago for ONLY a gospel CD. When the box came, it was bigger than it should have been, so I opened it, knowing it should only contain a CD. There were two extra books in the package that I had not ordered. Had to OPEN it to get out what I DID order; therefore, I could not do a “Return to Sender” because it had been opened. So I had to pay out-of-pocket to return what should not have been in the box to begin with. Scales up and down!
At the post office, I had one of those Greg kind of encounters. When I arrived, there was one person at the counter being waited on, two in line. I thought, “This is my lucky day!” Well, the two people in line were waiting for passport stuff, which was going to involve a little extra time. There was only ONE person in the whole building, and she was the one at the counter! The first person in line waiting for passport stuff had to be put to the side to fill out some paper work, so the next person needing a passport was served. Then it was my turn. All I needed to do was mail a package. Just as I stepped up to the counter, the lady’s computer froze. Wouldn’t budge; wouldn’t do a thing. By then, some more people had come back from their lunch break, I guess, and they were trying to help her get her computer up and going. Didn’t work. For some reason, she couldn’t just log on to another one of the four computers available at the counter. Another person came up to log on to another computer, and one of the guys trying to get the other computer going waved me over to the new station. I had to go around the first passport guy to get to her, at which point, she started waving her hands, “No, no, just a minute. I’m not ready, yet!” (I didn’t think it was going to hurt anything for me to just stand there, but she wanted me to move back in front of the computer that didn’t work. And, anyway, one of her peers had waved me over!) Be that as it may, I meekly returned to my original spot. By then, it appeared the guy needing a passport had finished his paper work, and I told him to go ahead because was actually in front of me. When the lady with the working computer got ready to accept customers, she inquired as to who was next. Both the man and I were saying the other was next. So she went through a barrage of questions about how he came to be doing paper work, was put aside, then I was taken, etc., etc., so he really was first! Then he turned out to be one of those people who reminded her of several different stickers, tapes, etc., all one at a time, and then when she handed him his folded-up receipts, he handed them back and asked her to staple them!! I finally mailed the package. Cost me $7.10 of my own money to return something I didn’t order! Scale way down……
But then, directly behind me in line was a lady with a beautiful, yellow lab/retriever mix. The lady was a service dog trainer, and the dog was a service dog in the making. “Amber” was beautiful. Several people were talking to the lady about her dog and what she does, and so on, and I was thinking about leaning over to pet her. Then in listening to their conversations, I found out they aren’t allowed to play when in a public place but are trained to listen to commands and do what they are supposed to. She was a beautiful dog, and the lady was very kind and gentle with her, and I’m sure Amber is going to be somebody’s soul mate. Scale went back up!!
July 3rd is the 18th anniversary of my Mom’s passing. Remembering that day puts some more weight on the scale!
However, lightening the scale is the news that our little baby girl, Kayleigh, is scheduled to make her debut splash into this world on Friday, July 3rd! It seems only yesterday we were going to the hospital to await the birth of her DAD! Where does time go?
I know life comes with scales being weighted down. But isn’t it nice that it also comes with scales whose weights are lifted?
TODAY’S SMILES:
- A delicious fish sandwich at Sonic for supper. Just about the best fish sandwich going.
- The news about Kayleigh’s pending birth.
- Some funny e-mails.
- Barney curled up asleep on a small bed next to my computer. Just wants to be close to this Mama. Having TWO Mamas, he really plays both ends of the field, let me tell you! It just happens to be my day.
- The flexibility of two little girls who thought their swimming pool would be installed today but will need to wait until next week.
See you tomorrow night. May God bless and keep you is my prayer.

Judy, sounds like you had some “patience” going on. In my “previous life”, you know…the rebellious unrepented one. I would have been very frustrated in those very same circumstances. If that happens now and if the old self thinks about “rearing its ugly head” I just think….this is ok. I am right where God wants me to be at this very moment, so make Him proud and make the most of it. My attitude is immediately adjusted.
About the other scales, I’m thinking of doing what a friend of mine does. She has a bathroom scale with no batteries. I love it!
Sounds like you had a pretty great day, except for that book club thing. That’s why I don’t do them, I don’t like having to send things back I didn’t ask for.

Hey, that sounds like a good idea with the scales! I’ve been told that a doctor’s scales are always set 5 pounds high just to scare the patients!!
