Becoming a Vessel…………………..
I mentioned a couple of nights ago about the study book I am in to, Becoming a Vessel God Can Use by Donna Partow. Below is an excerpt that had been underlined and asterisked by the friend who gave it to me, and I found it to be eye-opening and powerful, too.
THE MAJESTY OF OUR GOD
….Sometimes I think we imagine God as a nervous baseball coach, sitting on the sidelines during the 9th inning, pacing the dugout helplessly, wringing his hands and hoping his team can pull off a last-minute victory. Nothing could be further from the truth! He knows the end from the beginning. WHEN WE BEHOLD HIS MAJESTY, WE REALIZE THE VICTORY IS ASSURED. We realize he is fully capable of ordering the universe without our assistance.
Doesn’t that take the pressure off? You don’t have to perform for God. His eternal plan does not hinge on your ability to hit a home run with two strikes against you. Yes, he invites you to become a vessel used for his glory, but that doesn’t mean YOU have to figure out a way to bring him glory…..When you understand who the potter is, when you understand the power and majesty of the God you serve, you will realize how little you need to DO—–and how much you need to YIELD, how much you need to TRUST, how much you need to humbly OBEY.
What’s even more beautiful is that, when you do blow it (and we all blow it sometimes), he comes to the rescue. He “rides on the heavens to help you.” With his “everlasting arms” he stands ready to catch you. The very one who rides on the clouds in his majesty is the one who bends down to pick up the broken pieces of your life. He’s the very one who gently glues the pieces back together and returns you to a place of being a vessel he can use.
Scripture ref: Deut. 33:26-27 – “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens to help you, and on the clouds in his majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
I don’t know about you, but this sure lifts some pressure off me! No one, after all, left me in charge!!
TODAY’S SMILES:
- Lightening in the far off eastern sky.
- A beautiful summer evening.
- Ann, who thinks I need to be admonished to “behave!”
- He brings so many smiles each day, every now and then, I just have to include…………..Barney.
- I can get away with having ANYONE’s picture out in my home office that I choose.
- Being thankful for a comfortable, peaceful home in which to feel great or to have a day that I just need to chill in.
- Finding a recipe for chocolate divinity on the internet for Mary Lee.
- Watching what I think is a budding romance between these two people in our congregation.
That’s it for my Wednesday night. See you tomorrow night. May God bless and keep you and give you many smiles.

Too often we give so little to one who gave it all! Good thoughts, sounds like a very good book.

I like the baseball analogy and praise be to God that it doesn’t depend on our performance.
