Birthday Smiles
I had other thoughts I was going to share, regarding some struggles, but I’m putting those on hold because so many people have already made me smile this morning! Technology is a wonderful thing, and I have had very special birthday wishes from friends on Facebook. They are all special, and so I hesitate to single out one to comment on.
But I must mention a “happy birthday” e-card posted on my wall from my friend, Paul. Paul has ALS and is quite seriously ill—to the point that he tried to take his own life several weeks ago. He himself posted comments about that on Facebook, and I shared it a few days ago within this blog. I smiled and I thank God that Paul was unsuccessful in his attempt, out of his misery, to end his life. He is still with us today and able to send me happy birthday wishes. If that doesn’t bring a smile, I don’t know what would!
…..and as the King James Version renders Hebrews 11, “and what shall I more say? For the time would fail me to tell of Hailey (who owns a piece of my heart), Brigitt (very, very special in my life), Julie (a niece living in a distant state who barely knows me), Dennis and Shari (who sent me e-cards), Janice (dear sister, blogging friend, FB friend), Ivan, Kenny, Caril and Mary Ann (high school friends), and many others who’ve sent me wishes earlier this week or today), as well as the e-mail wish from someone who remembers my birthday (and it always takes me by surprise!). For someone to take the time to say “Happy Birthday” is a blessing and a gift.
My nephew, Phil, plans to grill us a steak and bake a reduced-sugar cake later today. (I haven’t cooked a meal in a week now; he’s doing it all!) Having him with us for this time has turned out to be a special gift for Doris and me (not just because he cooks). We’ve been able to see the metamorphosis that has taken place and is taking place in his life.
When I opened the curtains up for Barney this morning, there was a beautiful pink/orangey sunrise outside. All of this has seemed to be sending me a message – “Smile. Numbers are only numbers!!!!!”
May you have a day filled with surprises and blessings.

I am at a total loss of just what to say???? I’ll try HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Since I don’t go to FB very often, I missed seeing the announcement. Enjoy that steak! Know you are loved and appreciated.

Yes Judy, just numbers. I’m excited about my next one because I will start getting my Social Security checks, so that is a good thing to look forward to.
The anti-spam word is feast, and it sounds like your BD dinner will be just that. I’m so thankful Phil is doing so well too.
