As is apparent from the title of this blog, I am a cat lover from way back. Other animals, too, but especially kitty cats. I am also a recent retiree of the Federal Government (FDIC), having retired in February of last year (2007). I grew up in NE Arkansas and moved to Memphis, TN in 1969. I started working as a secretary right out of high school in 1967 and worked in that capacity for 40 years, the last 30 as a Federal employee. I like to say I retired at a very young age (!), and I am thoroughly enjoying this time of my life, especially the opportunity it gives me of greater service to those around me.
I am beginning this blog at the urging of friends who also blog. Initially, I did not feel I had anything to say that would be of interest to very many, so I just encroached on other people’s blogs! Recently, however, I began a ritual in my home that I started to feel was worth sharing and might be an encouragement to others, which is the central reason for this blog. I had read an article in Reader’s Digest a few months ago pertaining to daily smiles and gratitude and how these affect our physical, as well as emotional, health and wellbeing. Since that time, I have tried to focus daily on remembering what has happened during the day that made me smile, that I was grateful for, and that was a positive in the day. I like to call these splish-splashes of joy, just as raindrops splish-splash into a puddle of water. We all have our share of cloudy days, but we also have sunshine a lot of days, if we look for it. My thoughts on any given day may not always be bursting with sunshine, but I hope to share the smileys and positives of my days, even if they are small ones, as well as thoughts on a variety of subjects. I am a follower of Christ and thank Him supremely for all of His blessings. It continues to amaze me that He daily pours these into my life, even though I am undeserving. There are two scriptures I’d like to share, which define my life at this time. I return to them over and over for encouragement.
Hebrews 4:14-16 “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Phillipians 4:4-8 “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on such things.”
